Listen to some music from Nier

I will talk in depth about this wonderful game on this week’s show, but for now listen to some music from the game. Even if you are not interested in the game, or have already seen plenty of feed play, I highly recommend busting out the good headphones and listening to some of these tracks.

What do you think?

I’ve been listing to them, since you started playing the game on the feed. I can’t remember the last time when I’ve fallen this much in love video game OST.

Ordered my soundtrack from Yesasia when I read so many positive comments about it on threads, decided to check it out on youtube and I just fell for it.

It’s been a while now since a JRPG has had a soundtrack of such high-calibre that I immediately had to go and purchase it. I did this a lot back in the PS1 era of JRPGS, most notably on Nobuo’s old masterpieces and the euphoria that was the Chrono Cross OST(too bad I couldnt say the same for the game). Many people praise the FF13 soundtrack to the heavens, but for me, its soundtrack came off a little short, not having the same memorability & entrancing effect in the previous installments. But Nier, for sure, is a winner.

The soundtrack is beautiful, you can feel the emotional intensity in these scores. I am going to buy this game very soon.

I really like the soundtrack. Sure, it can be repetitive, but it’s not a bad soundtrack, so I don’t mind at all.

I’ve mentioned in chat that the soundtrack reminds me of the online RPG Cabal, specifically this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ee8xgYrkM-U

For me, it’s one of those soundtracks that you hear over and over, but don’t really mind because it sounds so nice. It’s very tranquil, and not very demanding in its attention. There are a lot of soundtracks that sort of demand attention to be appreciated, but I think Nier succeeds at giving us exactly what the name implies; background music. The music supports the game, but it isn’t mind-blowing complicated. It’s hard for me to truly express how I feel about it. I don’t want to take the limelight away from it, but at the same time, it doesn’t really need the limelight on it to begin with. It’s the framework that is needed to make something great, but alone isn’t what gives it its greatness.

Just listened to all of them and I agree it’s a great soundtrack. The only song I didn’t really like was the 3rd one. The first song reminded me of the opening to Elfin Lied (which I love) and a couple of the other songs remind me of Sigur Ros or Bjork. That last song is just crazy (in a good way).

The reason I became a fan of Japanese franchises was because of these kinds of epic soundtracks. They help so much to immerse in the world, and usually make the scenes as epic as they are.

As I don’t watch the feed that much, I don’t know how good the actual game is, but because of the tracks, it seems it’s one of those insanely epic games you just got to buy.

“Gods bound by Rules” is one of my favorite tracks in this OST. It’s so invigorating. I’ve never seen a vocal heavy game soundtrack sound more top notch than this, and surprised it was by composed by the person who did music for Tekken.

As you said, this is a great soundtrack to listen to as a CD or like a bossfight , but after they loop a few times, they lose the sense of emotion they had in them and become slightly annoying. Its still a great soundtrack though.

so repetitive. i had to mute this game after a while. im usually a sucker for soundtracks but these are all on 20 second loops as if the conductor had short term memory loss and kept repeating.

Probably the best soundtrack from a video game I’ve heard in a long time, especially from an RPG. Something about it is just very nostalgic, like PS1 era nostalgic. I heard that the “language” in these songs is actually a combination of various other languages (like French, Japanese, etc.). I don’t know if it’s true; I only heard that from a friend. Still, it’s interesting to me how even though it’s essentially gibberish, it’s incredibly beautiful to listen to.

I also really love the Song of the Ancients: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Dixqze8eAM
