X-COM trailer feels sacrilegious, yet oddly appealing.

By now it’s clear that the new X Com game won’t be turn-based nor tactical. It won’t be futuristic, either.

This new trailer shows american suburbia getting invaded by goo in the 50′s.  I was shocked when they said the new X Com game was going to be a first person shooter.  After seeing this trailer, it doesn’t seem so bad.  The setting looks really cool and I hope the focus of the game is on the events that are ocurring, not so much on shooting non-stop.  All the game is missing is little green men, to fit in with the 50′s theme. Hopefully there will be more enemies besides that black goo. It seems kinda X-Filey, right?  At the very least, we’ll be getting Bioshock on land. Fingers crossed.

What are everyone’s thoughts? I’m pumped.

So THIS is what happened to the goo balls at the end of world of goo. I expected as much.

anyway, looks interesting. getting that 50′s horror movie vibe, just in this case its actually unsettling.

if that black poo is the only enemy this game is going to get boring fast.

I do remember seeing a few previews for this in an Xbox magazine and thinking how it could work out but after seeing the trailer, the game seems to have taken a positive turn.

I don’t know..i’m still very skeptic about this, the whole trailer just turns me off from it for some reason, seem a little goofy. And the idea of going through the whole game shooting black goo off people doesn’t seem that fun. Definitely going to have to see some more clips of it.

I want to be able to replay the sound from 1:24 to 1:27 over and over again. It’s… beautiful.

I’ve never touched an X-COM game, but this looks flippin’ rad to me, and I’ll be adding it to my gamefly when/if a PS3 port gets announced.

Man, I can totally imagine what I just said sounding really obnoxious to a hardcore X-COM fan. “Oh you ignorant console-fanboy philistine! Even this loathsome heresy unto the COM of X is too good for you!”

I could care less about this update to be honest.

Smooth Oat.

On the topic of the post, this looks pretty wacky. Fighting black sludge for an entire game seems like it could get boring and tedious, but it still kinda piqued by interest.

If this is any indication for what will happen with the Syndicate “reboot” I will murder someone.

Why call it X-Com at this point?

The game seems so un-X-Com that its disturbing.

Welcome back Carlos, I hope all is well in Mexico. 4player Podcast has been distinctively less pimp without you.

I don’t understand. How can it be called “X-COM” when there is literally no “X-COM” in the game? The radical shift in tone from the previous games in the series suggests that somebody wanted to make an FPS that was an homage to old 50′s alien/monster movies, and somebody higher up thought, “Hey, X-COM has clout, and we’re never going to make one of those games again, anyway. Why not just attach the name to this and hope it sells?”
