It’s Official, PAX Plans

Ladies and Gentleman, it’s official. We’re going to be part of PAX Prime. I got an email today approving one of our panel submissions.

“Do You Have A Chance Against IGN, 1UP, & GameSpot?” is tentatively scheduled for Friday, September 3rd at 6:00pm in Raven Theatre.

Currently the Panel will feature Gus Sorola from Rooster Teeth Productions as well as Nick, Brad, and myself.

Here is the description of the panel.

There are thousands of video game sites out there but most of the views and news are monopolized by bigger, better funded, more talented company websites. Game companies are out creating content for themselves, cutting out the middle man. But still you have dreams of making your own website about video games. How do you make a name for yourself? How much do you personally invest? How do you overcome these incredible odds? Or is there even a point? Come listen to people talk about both sides of the industry, those who made it and those who haven’t.

If you’re making plans to go to PAX, please feel free to stop by and say hello. We also had a couple other panels submitted, we got our fingers crossed for those as well. I’ll let you know the details should they materialize.

Thanks,
David

Congratz! It’s nice to see you guys are finally getting the recognition you deserve. You all work so hard and sacrifice so much of your time and money to keep us entertained. I’m sure you will learn a lot from this and hopefully this is helps you really break into the game industry. I’m a little confused though, are you guys are going to speak in front of an audience of almost 60 000 people or just listen?
Also, you get to meet Gus Sorola from RT HOLY SHIT!

you guys should come to ikkicon with that panel as well. it would be nice, seeing as austin is indie-company friendly.

That sounds great for you guys.
A nice way to expand the 4pp community to the rest of the gaming community and the industry.
Good Luck at the panel

I may actually have to go this year then. I live in Seattle but have never gone to Pax, because it is always the same weekend as Bumbershoot. It helps my decision that Bumbershoot is even more expensive this year and has less bands that I’m interested in than usual. Pax in, Bumbershoot out.

You guys will kill it and have a blast. Since I started following 4PP (around a year ago) you guys have added so much content and upgraded a lot. You’re going places! Congrats

Going to also add: We should start a forum topic discussing this panel topic and the community ideas floating around about that. It sure would make for interesting discussion in my opinion.

In fact… It’s right here:

This is really good to hear! And I’m also glad to see the site has been getting a lot more comments. Hope we can see footage of the panel as well for the people who can’t make it to PAX. Maybe the guys from RT will get some recordings and we can see you guys in it.

Am I really the only one who has a problem with this sentence: “There are thousands of video game sites out there but most of the views and news are monopolized by bigger, better funded, more talented company websites.” Just because a certain site has more funds doesn’t mean they have more talent, in fact I prefer indie websites and I’m sure a few people will concur that IGN has little talent.

But anyways I’m glad that you will get a chance to shine and show that you guys are working really hard to provide accurate and informative articles whilst hosting an awesome community.

I only wish I could make it.

Perhaps the word talent in this sense is less literal and is meant to be a nicer way of saying meat puppet.

Personally, I would have removed the “more talented” part of the description. I think we, and a few other independent sites, provide much better content, in terms of introspection, than the drivel the larger sites churn out.

I hope someone’s able to record it so those of us who can’t make it to PAX can see the panel.

Sounds like a good name actually. And Jeez Gus Sorola? How did you guys manage to get him? I hope he comments about it on the Drunktank. That would be awesome.
