These past few days I've been on quite a bit of a Metal Gear kick talking about Rising, Raiden's first time back as a playable character in just over a decade.  When the redesign trailer for Rising was revealed Saturday afternoon a lot of people bashed it quite hard, questioning whether it deserved to even be called a Metal Gear game.  I made my case for the game on Monday on why I thought Rising could be an excellent entry in the franchise and I hope that, if you haven't read it, you click through after watching the video above.

Konami released a new Kojima Productions documentary video about the game yesterday evening and, throughout the 25 minute video, it gives quite a humbling message about failure.  The video also contains some extra footage from the game not found in the trailers that show off some of the verticality of the game as well as a bit more on the precision capabilities of the cutting system.  The cutting system in particular, while perhaps not allowing you to cut buildings apart, looks quite capable as the programmer shows off a precision cut on a box hiding a soldier as well as the shredding of a Gecko and a car.

Another thing to note is where the game about Raiden actually came from.  Kojima originally proposed a Metal Gear title about The Boss and the Cobra unit during the invasion of Normandy but changed it after learning of a staff proposal to have Raiden's character fill in the blanks about the events between Sons of Liberty and Guns of the Patriots.  At Platinum's request the story was altered to instead occur years after MGS4 so that Platinum can create their own beginning and ending without being tied down to already written fiction.  Story writing responsibilities still lie with Kojima Productions though so I don't think you have to worry about Platinum fully altering it.

This'll be my last post about the game unless something big comes up.  I hope this makes you a bit more optimistic about the game.

There is a 4 part video interview with kojima on ign(yes i know groan) it gives a lot of answers to why the game was cancelled initially and such. Like how kojima ki da left the game in the hands of his younger designers, but it was impossible to make a stealth game in where u can literally cut anything. He talks about the game did not work because u can just basically steam roll through a level....my example i got was imagining u having to go through a building, but u just end up cutting ur way through walls. I suggest everyone watch the interview

I think it still looks cool, really interesting to see how two of the biggest companies of gaming (on awesomeness level grade) are working together to finish what looks to be an amazing action title with combat looking to be reminiscent of Bayonetta.
I'm excited of course, and also for the extra footage they showed with running on walls and such.

As much as I fucking love how this new MG game looks, they really have to drop the sub-title. "Metal Gear Rising" sounds good enough. Whoever decided "Revengance" was a good title needs to go sit in the naughty-corner. Revengance isn't even a word, dang it. Even my spell-checker is giving me a red squiggly line underneath it.
    Look at it.
    Revengance.
That red squiggly line thirsts for blood.

I still want to see MGS5 with The Boss as the protag though.
    Maybe some other time.

When I saw the first trailer for MGS rising in 2010, I was really excited about the game and all of the mechanics it had. Hearing it was delayed was disappointing but it was ok.

When I heard that it was being developed by Platinum Games. I was a bit worried that it would stray from the MGS formula that a lot of MGS fans loved and turn into a Bayonetta clone. NOT SAYING that Bayonetta is bad, but for a MGS game, I didn't see it working at all.

BUT, after seeing the new trailer and this documentary, all my worries gone away, and I'm hyped as hell for it.... except for one little itch in the back of my head. the fact that the game was made by the Platinum Games style instead of the Kojima style (if that makes any since). what I'm truing to say is this: I really hate all the flash, over the top, energy looking, flames and stuff that are shooting out when ever Raiden hits an enemy, it's the exact same problem I had when playing Bayonetta with all the crap on the screen that almost gave me a seizure. I know it's a nit pick from my part and I'll get people saying: "it's an action game dumbass, it should be like that" or "well if you don't like Bayonetta then you shouldn't get this game" that's not what I'm saying at all. I'm just saying that I wish that they would be a bit subtle (even though that word does not exist in Platinum Games dictionary) with it at least to be a bit closer to an MGS game.

Anyway, I'm excited about the game and from what I saw in the trailer, it looks promising.

I love how candid this video is, I wish we had more of it in the game industry.
