FAQ
Welcome to the 4Player Podcast! (Last Updated 07.02.2009)
If you’ve made it this far, you’re doing quite well for yourself. First off, welcome and thanks for stopping by. We assume you’re new to the community, so here are some commonly asked questions that can help avoid getting you in trouble with the mods or keep you from looking like a noob in chat.
What is it you guys do?
Here at 4Player Podcast we started with a weekly podcast recording. We talk about video game topics such as What We’re Playing, The News, and The Community. Sometimes we have a Discussion Topic or we’ll answer some viewer questions. Starting February 2008, we started doing a live broadcast over the internet where we play games live. We broadcast every night and since May of 2008 we haven’t missed a single night. You can find the link to our JTV Channel right at the top where it says “Live.”
If you do decide to join in watching the broadcast, you’ll notice a chatroom to the side. That’s because there is a live chat going on 24 hours, even when we’re not broadcasting there are always members of our community hanging around. You are welcome to create an account and join in the conversation, but please read more of the the following questions first.
When do you you guys broadcast?
Most times, we will be live by around 10 PM Central Standard Time. Also sometimes look for us in the late afternoons. Unfortunately, because we all work day jobs, there’s really not a set schedule. Also we do this cause we enjoy it. Having a set schedule kinda just cramps things up. Maybe one day though…
(Also you could check the archives)
What do you play?
Anything really. We play mostly console games, but we have played PC on the feed before as well as handhelds. If you check the blog often enough you’ll see what’s called “This Week On The Feed,” that will usually give a good general outline about what’s going on.
What if you’re playing something boring and I’m uninterested?
By all means, feel free to leave. Come back some other time when we’re playing something more up your alley. Also, Remember? You’re not paying us to entertain you. We’re doing because we like playing games and for people who enjoy watching us. If you’re not, please don’t let us be a drag on your social life. Also, as a courtesy
There’s no reason to Announce to everyone that you’re bored and are leaving to do something else.
Think of it like a public restroom. You go in do your thing. When you’ve completed your goal, you leave. You don’t hang around waiting to see if someone does something interesting and then announce to everyone there that It’s boring and you are going to play Pokemon.”
Hey, I HAVE A GREAT IDEA….You should play ______?
Please, please please, do not suggest things in chat. Screaming out PLAY GTA or PLAY FATAL FRAME, is probably the most annoying thing you can do. We know you have a great idea. We know you’re excited.
But chances are
A.) We’ve Played It Already.
B.) Someone Else Has Suggested It Before.
C.) We’re Already Currently Playing Something Else.
And if it’s not one of those three, then it’s just plain annoying to have people telling you what to do. Suggesting/Requesting games is one of the easiest ways to show you’re new to chat and the quickest way to get on our nerve. We get that stuff every time we broadcast, so as a courtesy please refrain from it.
If you still think your suggestion is absolutely amazing, feel free to email it to one of us. Our emails are located on the top right side of the blog.
What If I Don’t Care Cause I’m a Badass?
Yes, we’ve had quite a few of you in chat since we started broadcasting. We’d love to have everyone in chat to follow the rules and still have fun. But it’s the internet and people are going to act like morons. If you’re asking yourself, “huh?” This probably means you. So to make sure that the 4PP chat is enjoyable, we have what are called Moderators.
They have the ability to give you a Time Out which in turn will disable your ability to chat for ten minutes. After that you will return as normal and be welcomed back into the community with open arms.
NOTICE: There is also something called slow-mode where you will only be able to type one response every minute. It’s a normal feature that’s necessary when we have large numbers of people trying to chat all at once.
Excellent, so in ten minutes, I’ll be back to SPAMMING AGAIN!?!?!
Kinda, first off we can always just give you another Time Out. Our mods are some of the fastest on the internet. I’ve seen them purge an offensive comment so fast that I’ve not even seen it. So please, don’t waste your time. Every one will laugh at you for getting Timed Out or they will wonder why you waited ten minutes to be an nuisance only to have to sit in the corner again for another ten minutes.
Also, and most importantly, if you’re seen constantly harassing chat, You’ll end up getting banned. What does this mean? You will permanently no longer be able to contribute at all. Sad Face.
Can I get unbanned? Can’t I just make another account?
Sure, you could do either. But it’s a lot of trouble. Unbanning banned chatters is not the highest on the priority list. Do we want to sit down and read a made up story about why you got banned or do we want to play video games? It’s not really rocket science. We’re going to put you on the back burner. You could always make a new account as well but just keep in mind, if you’re just going to be stupid again, we could always just ban you again too. So what’s the point?
Finally here are some community made guidelines to keep you out of Limbo/Purgatory.
1. Do not post links into chat without permission of mods or channel owners.
(Include that you have mod approval in your post if you get it and only post it once)
2. Do not start or support a flamewar.
3. Do not spam messages and do not create multiple accounts to sustain spam.
4. Do not make offensive remarks to another chat member’s religion, race, gender, or sexual orientation.
(For example, using “gay” or the “n-word” as an insult or chauvinist jokes.)
5. Do not speak in all caps (unless in short, non-excessive bursts)
6. Do not use excessive text such as many punctuation marks or extending works (such as faces)
7. Do not perform Fake Time Out’s (typing “this message has been purged” without being timed out)
8. Do not say fail, fission mailed, or related memes.
9. Do not spoil games.
Thanks to all the chatters who contributed to this list.
As a personal note, We often get stories about so and so was on my computer when I wasn’t looking and I got banned. So as a caution, don’t let idiot use your computer!
How do I become a Mod?
Mods are usually hand picked. We don’t look at how long you’ve been around or how popular you are in chat. Asking to be a mod usually takes you out of the running. If you’re frequently in chat and contributing relevant comments, contributing useful information, and generally enhancing the 4PP experience, we’ll notice.
Currently that is it. I’m sure more questions will come up and we’ll answer them as they come. Also, the Wiki will be a great way to find answers to your questions and explanation to 4Player Podcast inside jokes and memes.
Thanks for reading this,
4PP
