Common Terms
Common terms are words or phrases that are frequently and currently used.
Chach
Nick spots a chach in its natural habitat.
Chach (sometimes spelled chotch, chauch, chatch) is a derogatory term for someone who is a jerk in general. The word began being used prominently during the Extra Life Marathon, in which Nick got mad at David for using the word he claimed was his own.
Since then, the word can be heard describing someone the certain broadcaster dislikes, in Nick's case, Geoff Keighley.
Cheevos
A shortening of the word "achievements" coined by David. Any time his gamerscore increases or achievements are unlocked, usually a victory cry of "[Got some] cheevos!" is said.
Classic Terms
Classic terms are words or phrases that were used in the past but are not commonly used.
Bearrell Roll
The Bearrel Roll Promotional Badge
- See also: Bearrel Roll
Perhaps one of 4PP's most well-known phrases, "Do a Bearrell Roll" were the words yelled by Brad when he rolled a large bear down a steep hill in the game, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
It would be the start of many different Bearrell Rolls, even turning into a "Bearrell Spin" on one occasion.
Months after this happened, the phrase can still be seen coming from new members, who have just seen the highlight on YouTube, or the clip on Justin.tv.
Gary Sinise
Gary Sinise (sometimes spoken Gary Senise'd) is a phrase that Brad coined while playing the Little Big Planet Beta. He was playing an Apollo 13 themed level, when he left behind one of his teammates, flying off in a rocket. Brad now shouts it whenever he leaves someone behind in a vehicle, or another moving object.
The term references the 1995 movie Apollo 13 in which Gary Sinise's character "Ken Mattingly" is left behind because of his risk of contracting Measles.
Djombie
A Djombie is a type of enemy that appears in a comedic trailer for the PS3 title The Last Guy. The proper term for it is "Zombie" but given the heavy accent of the speaker, it was pronounced "Djombie" [jawm-bee]. They are known for their tenacity when it comes to chasing The Last Guy and other survivors. The video is usually played to stall for time, or whenever someone is looking for a game to play.
Jerky Dodge
- Watch the highlight
The Jerky Dodge is when you unintentionally dodge an attack by doing another action. The term's name comes from when Brad was playing Silent Hill 3, and was fighting the final boss. Brad jokingly placed beef jerky on the floor, for the monster to eat, and accidentally dodged the bosses attack.
J.G.
J.G. is a term used by Brad when playing Left 4 Dead. The term stands for actor Jeff Goldblum, and references his character in Jurassic Park. In the movie, Goldblum's character distracts a T-Rex right before it is about to eat some of the other characters. It's usually used in a situation where a Tank is pursuing you, and you aren't doing well. In other words, it's a quick way to say "Get this Tank off of me!".
Oh sh*t, it's a Tank! It's right on my a*s! I need a J.G!"
Scooter Brothers
The most famous or possibly infamous 4Player Podcast clip in which Brad drives around in Grand Theft Auto IV on a motorcycle screaming about finding his long lost brother. It was an attempted reference to the 1991 film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. [1] The popularity of Scooter Brothers is a mystery and on multiple occasions Brad himself has referred to it as not very funny. It should be noted that the Scooter Brothers clip was never originally uploaded to the 4Player Podcast YouTube Account. The clip that was much popularized is uploaded to a fan's account, AutumnTheCuzzy. Although, unfortunately, it is not uncommon to find fans that regard Scooter Brothers as unsavory as it brought about many YouTubers who immediately jumped into chat constantly repeating that phrase.
Characters
Giant Spook Man
- Watch the highlight
The Giant Spook Man (also known as Spook Man or the acronym GSM) is a NPC from the video game Call of Cthulhu (for the original Xbox and PC). Although commonly referred to as GSM, in the game his name is "Constable Nathan Birch".
The story starts as Nick is playing the game, along with Brad watching and giving commentary. Nick is trying to siding a bookshelf in front of a door so he wont be discovered "snooping around". While this is happening, the door he is trying to cover up keeps unexpectedly opening. On the third time of trying to push the bookshelf, Nick looks over at the opened door, slightly glances away, and looks at the door again only to find the Giant Spook Man right in his face. This causes Nick to jump and Brad to totally freak out, spouting curse words and funny one liners. When Nick un-pauses the game, the Giant Spook Man says the most memorable line "What you doing snooping around in here? Get out!" He is later killed by Nick in another video.
Since then, when any large NPC that suddenly surprises any of the players, the common term to describe them (either in Chat or by Brad) is "Giant Spook _____" where the underline is a description of the NPC. Example: Giant Spook Soldier
The Giant Spook Man's line was comically referenced by Brad in the video "Next Time Jack, Bolt the Door!"
Nobunaga
Nobunaga is the second persona of Travis Granger that is unleashed at the start of the Xbox 360 game, Halo 3. In history, Oda Nobunaga was a daimyo, a powerful territory lord, but to Not much is known of his past, where he comes from, or what the full extent of his powers are. All that is known is that Nobunaga ends every fool he sees when he plays online games, regardless of their team colors, and you'd better pray to your lesser god that you don't become his Quest, for if you do, your fate is sealed.
Nobunaga is known to favor the Halo 3 rocket launcher as a means to deliver his holy wrath on his enemies. When he locates one, he often lets out his iconic warcry, "'BOOM' SAID THE BLIND MAN!" as he fires.
Nobunaga has also claimed on several occasions that he is an avid rapist, though the extent of how metaphorical this declaration may be is up for discussion.
Buster Trace
Buster Trace is a man of mystery, who appears on the feed sometimes. He has an oddly high pitched voice, and sounds slightly like David. He doesn't say much and when asked who he is, he will reply simply with "Buster....Buster Trace".
Super Sgt. Colonel Ranald
Super Sgt. Colonel Ranald is a Military FPS persona of Travis who's most recent appearance has been in a game of Battlefield: Bad Company, but made his first appearance in Call of Duty 4. Super Sgt. Colonel Ranald has a hate for non-Americans, team-killing, and general incompetence.
Zombrad
Zombie alter ego of Brad who assisted him in a Cooking with Brad segment and thanking the community for the 2009 Podcast Award. A limited edition Resident Evil 5 zombie shirt is said to help the transformation from Brad to Zombrad. Sometimes he has an Italian accent, his true origins are unknown.
The Roach of Krondor
The Roach of Krondor was the name given to a cockroach that interrupted the recording of 4Player Podcast episode 126. The name's origin comes from the show's Chatter of the Week segment, in which the submission from theexileddun listed his/her number 3 favorite game of all time as "Return to Krondor". The guys had never heard of the relatively obscure game, and found it's mention and title humorous. During the recording of Podcast 178, another roach assaulted the 4PP crew. The Roach of Krondor lives on.
Objects and Figures
Bunk the Headcrab
Bunk the Headcrab is a plush Headcrab doll from Valve's Half-Life that made his home at the 4Player Podcast HQ. Bunk usually takes his place in the middle of the podcast table, with a backup recording device atop his head. He can also be seen at the end of the season one opening, in his usual spot. Bunk is named after the character William "Bunk" Moreland from one of Brad's favorite television series, The Wire. Bunk has appeared in almost every single main podcast episode, excluding podcasts recorded in hotels at conventions.
Jonathan Blow the Blowup Doll
Jonathan Blow the Blowup Doll is a plastic blowup doll that David obtained at South By South West Convention. David went to a panel called "Being Indie and Successful in the Video Game Industry". One of the members of the panel, Jonathan Blow, did not show up so they replaced him with a blow up doll that resembles Freddy Mercury. After they were done David started mingling with them and he was offered the blow up doll. Its new home is with 4PP, sometimes taking his place in Travis's chair.
It is also noteworthy that Jonathan Blow is not a sex doll. He has no holes or protrusions. He is just a blowup man.
The Bear Box
A long time ago, an artist took a box and drew on all of its sides a bear breathing fire. The artist mailed the box to 4Player Podcast's P.O. Box and after it was received, it was seen in the background when 4PP broadcasted their podcasts live. The Bear Box hasn't shown up on the feed, nor has it been mention by any of the players anytime recently. It has been replaced by Jonathan Blow which now sits at the back of the room during a podcast.
David's Cuddle Pillow
Travis, seen with the pillow, the morning of Project M
David's Cuddle Pillow has been seen on the feed and in images on the blog.
On one side of the pillow is a full size cover of an anime girl, the back of the pillow however is unknown. David has explained the backside is a little more mature but claims there is no nudity on it. Seemingly, he loves the pillow and loves its smell.
Music
Track 15: Sunset Heroes
Sunset Heroes is a song from the game Godhand's Original Soundtrack. Brad often uses the song in tense or epic situations, like during a speedy rocket filled run in N+ or a leap of faith from building to building in Crackdown. Community members have dubbed this Brad's unofficial "theme song".
Rico Suave
Rico Suave is a song by Ecuadorian rapper and singer Gerardo. Juan uses this song as his intro music whenever he starts to broadcast on the feed. In reference, Juan's gamer tag on Xbox Live is "Juan Suave".
Inside Jokes
Any Norwegians?
Any Norwegians? is a 4Player Podcast Community 'inside joke'. It's origin comes from a screen shot that forum member Halfjaw took. In the screenshot (to the right) the entire chat is filled with "<this message has been purged>" except for one lone message asking the seemingly random question "Any Norwegians?".
Bourne and Turok
Nick is a fan of the Bourne movie series, and the Turok video game series (or dinosaurs in general). The newest Turok and Bourne games were severely sub-par, leading Brad and the others to mock Nick's enjoyment of both of the titles. His defense of these games has led Brad to believe Nick just enjoys bad games, which he used as an argument as to why Nick should play Haze.
Mmmmm...Titties and Butt
In Brad's past, he knew a man named Bert. His last name is unknown. Bert would constantly say the phrase, "mmmmmm...Titties and Butt". Brad believed it was probably from some song he had either made up, or was parodying. Nick suggested he change the line to "Boobies and butt", which Brad responded to with "Titties and tail".
Ponyo Drinks The Blood!
When David was watching the Miyazaki movie, "Ponyo", one scene disturbed him. In this scene, the young protagonist gets a cut on his finger. The title character Ponyo proceeds to lick the blood from the boy's finger. To which David responded in disgust with "PONYO DRINKS THE BLOOD!!". It seems the phrase must be shouted, and annoys Brad deeply.
Enchantment Wave
Enchantment Wave in action
The Enchantment Wave is a rare occasion in chat when slow mode is lifted and all chatters are encouraged to spam "Enchantment? Enchantment!", which are the only lines of Bioware's beloved Dragon Age: Origins character Sandal. The first Enchantment Wave occurred when Brad was playing ChaosMUD and asked chat what the name of the 4PP guild should be, and a response was "Enchantment". It should be noted that Enchantment Waves are used for special occasions, such as when Sandal is mentioned on a podcast recording or Brad refers to Carlos as Enchantment or Enchantdoofman.
