Managing Hype: The Case of Bioshock 2
In 2007, 2K Boston, formerly Irrational Games, delivered Bioshock, one of the most memorable first person experiences in gaming. Bioshock was a game unlike any other thanks to its rich, immersive world and solid combat mechanics. Now, on the eve of the year’s second high profile release, we find ourselves enthusiastic and excited for our sophomore return to Rapture. Anticipation and hype is definitely part of what makes gaming such an exciting hobby but when it gets out of control, we can sometimes be the cause of our disappointment. Before you begin your play through of Bioshock 2, take the time to remind yourself of the following.
DISCLAIMER: I am a shameless victim of hype. In order to enjoy Bioshock 2 the best I can, I have been on media blackout for the past 3 months or so. I have not watched any game play footage outside of the first few videos that were every shown. However, there are a few things that I think everyone should understand about Bioshock 2.
My Heavy Rain demo playthrough.
I wanted to post this so everyone can check it out before I discuss it on the show. While I’m still very excited about playing this game upon release, I have some issues I want to discuss. Believe it or not my problems have nothing to do with controls, visuals, or even the quick time events — they are complaints I wasn’t expecting to have with this game.
Has anyone else tried the demo? What are your opinions?

4PP 154 – The Massive Show (Correction)

We had some technical difficulties posting the show this week. As a result, I finally looked into speeding up the posting process. Luckily, this means the show can get up much faster each week! Anyways, the show should finally be correct, whether you go through iTunes or through the download link below! (Show may take a bit to update in iTunes)
This week, we are joined by intern Nolan, Carlos, and our Seattle correspondent, Joseph, for a MASSIVE discussion of Mass Effect 2. Don’t worry, we squeeze in some impressions of No More Heroes 2, Sin and Punishment for the Wii and of course some interesting news topic. But lets face it, you want to hear about Mass Effect 2.
Thanks,
Nick
“Fly me to the Moon”. Bayonetta sells over 1 million units. UPDATED

Well it looks like Platinum Games has struck…uhm…Platinum with their sexy action romp, man juice in the pants, extravaganza. Sega has released numbers showing sales of 1,100,000 million units sold on both the PS3 and the 360.
Congratulations Hideki Kamiya!
Now if you will excuse me, I have a date with a bottle of AstroGlide and a perfect dodge mechanic.

UPDATE: Joystiq is reporting that Bayonetta was only released in Japan during the period covered by this financial report. So its looking like that 1.1 million sales is Japan only.
Fallout: New Vegas. Pumped up in that “Carlos” way.
A new teaser trailer has been released for Fallout: New Vegas being developed by Obsidian Entertainment. Not much is known about the game. Not being a sequel to Fallout 3 it is supposed to take place in the same universe and provide “…the same sort of role-playing game experience seen in Fallout 3“. We’ll see what that means sometime this year.
One can’t help but notice the similarities between this teaser and the original Fallout 3 teaser. The music, the way the camera pans, the subject matter. Its almost the same teaser but with a different setting.
