There has been a lot of speculation over whether Diablo III would be coming to consoles or not (I've been saying that it will). No concrete word has come from Blizzard on that, but in the meantime you can parch your dungeon crawling thirst with Torchlight. The previously PC-only game will be coming to XBLA in a few months during their "House Party" lineup of game releases. Torchlight will have some pretty good company. Beyond Good and Evil HD remake, Hard Corps Uprising, PopCap's Bejeweled Blitz Live, and Full House Poker are all on the list.

The XBLA release of Torchlight will have a new console-friends control scheme (dual sticks for moving and attacking, bumpers for potions, and hotkeys assigned to triggers and buttons) and interface which seems to eliminate the usual keyboard hotkey system.

All in all, Torchlight on XBLA is great news. Not only because it's a great game but because it's further proof that a Diablo-esque style game is possible on current gen consoles. Blizzard...you have no excuse. Besides, you already put Diablo on the PS1.

I'm willing to bet my sealed Super Metroid that Diablo 3 won't be coming to consoles, but rather, some sort of spinoff thingy-majig built from the ground up with consoles in mind. "Besides, you already put Diablo on the PS1." Yea, and look at how HORRENDOUSLY that turned out, no one in their right mind purchased the PS1 version back when it came out over the PC version.

As for Torchlight on XBLA.....again, for me personally, I have no temptation or inkling as to why I should purchase a game like that on a console as apposed to the PC version(which isn't resource intensive at all). I also think they have confirmed that secondary weapon sets have been completely stripped because Runic discovered that there wasn't a good way to include that mechanic onto a console as well as some mechanics such as skills, spells, and item-mapping having to be altered.

I dunno, but personally, count me out!

The only reason i have to not purchase this is because i already have it on the PC, plus i already have some of my favorite mods for the game installed, and that's one big advantage it has over the console port, no user created content will be supported cause Microsoft are uptight assholes.

And if you don't believe me on how many mods there are for the game, download Torchleech, it has a massive list of all the current working mods for Torchlight.

Hmm, I didn't get this for PC because I honestly prefer Diablo, but if this possibly makes it on PS3 I might consider picking it up.

I'll stick to Torchlight on PC. I already made a mod myself for a Huntress class which combines a variety of skills to focus on traps and long range attacking. A sort of fusion of the Diablo Assassin and Amazon, I love her. Plus I also applied a few other mods which I've adored, so there's no going back for me.

I WILL state though that, control wise... I've done a few thought experiments. That is. Take Diablo 2 and try to convert the controls for a 360 or PS3 controller, make it work.

I tried with it, thinking that the controls of Diablo 2 would be similar enough for Diablo 3 to work. What I found out was that, with a regular controller, the controls are... Alright... They're functional, but not incredible. I tried it twice, with two different control setup (Though honestly, I didn't think about the twin stick, but that still won't deter my later argument).

Then I played around with the idea "Hah! What if it was Kinect/Move compatible"

Kinect to me in my mind was an immediate fluke in terms of controls... As for the Move, I jokingly applied the idea of scheming through a control setup and... To my surprise...

    Left Analog: Move your character
Move Wand + Pointer on screen: Replicate Mouse
    Move Button: Right click.
    R1: Left Click
L1: Open Action Hotkey, up to 8 selectable skills using the Analog, when Hotkey selection is open, Movement is impossible. Highlight the skill, click the Move or R1 button to replace currently 'equipped' skill. (North/North-west/West/etc)
(Or 9 thinking about it. Center could hold a skill itself)

Just there... Just There I've replicated the basics of the Diablo 2 gameplay, but let's continue on.

    X: Pick up objects/Interact
    O: Cancel
Square: Switch weapon set 1 and 2 (A feature we saw late in Diablo 2's life)
Triangle: Run on/off (If Stamina no longer exists in Diablo 3, that makes a free button)

    Start: Option menu/exit game
Select: Game menu/inventory/status/quest. Takes half the screen.
R2/L2: Flip through your game menu, going between pages such as Inventory, Quest, Status.

    D-pad:
    Left/Right: Select Potion Column
    Up: Use potion
    Down: Use Portal Scroll

    And you know what?

L2/R2 are still free outside of game menu.
And R3 and L3 aren't even touched yet... This is crazy awesome... I hope there's some bright guy over at Blizzard who's smart enough to figure out this control scheme or something more accessible.

You know, I'm not all that excited for Torchlight on the XBLA. I'm sure there are plenty of people who will finally get a chance to play it, though, so good for them if they buy it. I thought the demo was pretty fun but I never purchased the game on PC.

However, I find it a bit intriguing that you spoke so briefly of the Beyond Good and Evil HD remake. I believe that is a far more important and news worthy topic and something I am very excited for. I never completed the game on the original xbox, but now I'll be able to finally sit down and put the story to a close for myself.

Man I am so happy about this. I heard it would be at some point a while ago, and I bought it on Steam because I enjoyed the demo, but like all great games, it doesnt work. Maybe Ill still catch it on XBL.

Just bought Torchlight a few months ago during a Steam sale. They'll probably want at least 1200 points for it. Any word on if they're adding multiplayer?
