Spider-Man Edge of TimeAfter playing through Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions last year, I felt that Beenox might be a glimmer of hope in the eye of the dwindling franchise. With the announcement of their next title, "Spider-Man-Edge of Time", I felt a twinge of excitement seeing as their portrayal of the beloved superhero felt so fresh the last time. Unfortunately, it seems I may have jumped the gun on that one since the first trailer and screenshots for the game have surfaced and rather than continue on their creative streak, Beenox has opted to re-hash their original formula.

Initial impressions? I feel that Beenox/Activision have set themselves up for a monumental missed opportunity. Not only does the game reuse the original assets from Shattered Dimensions, it appears to be using the same tricks as before. The 2099 universe seems to be focused around narrow (boring) corridors and falling sequences. Where is the originality and the promise that Beenox originally introduced? Where is the risk? Why not take the 2099 universe and open it up a little? It all seems very uninspired and unexciting at this point.

I'm sorry Beenox but I gave you the benefit of the doubt the first go around and you stole my heart. Don't stop there. Without a fresh new design concept and camera that actually works, i'm going to have pass on this one. My fingers are crossed that maybe the real charm behind this project hasn't been revealed yet but I wouldn't hold my breath.

'The 2099 universe seems to be focused around narrow (boring) corridors and falling sequences.'

while this is probably true, we've only seen about 30 seconds of actual gameplay here, I wouldn't shelve it already. They might have more to offer.

Yeah Looks to much like shattered dimensions (DLC even?)

No doubt if you enjoyed SD this will be a lot of fun but it wont bring in
any new players which is what the old games did (Spider-Man 2 and Ultimate)

    What a Shame : (

So more of the same, but now with only two Spidermen? Yeah, a completely missed opportunity. But still, if they do manage to pull something cool off, then bravo Beenox. Wouldn't get my hopes up, though.

For some reason I've really gotten into Spiderman, so I missed the shattered dimensions game. I'll probly pick this one up simply cause I'm new to it. The last Spiderman Game I remember playing is Ultimate Spider man, so yea...
