When I saw The Witcher 2 at E3 this year there was one prevailing question. Will The Witcher 2 ever see the light of day on the PS3? CD Projekt Red was somewhat measured in their response, saying that it might happen someday but alluding to the fact that their current responsibility was to the Xbox 360. Today, however, CD Projekt Red senior producer Tomasz Gop has opened up a little more to Eurogamer, stating  that the company would "love" do put The Witcher 2 on the PS3, but relenting that there are a number of issues holding it up at the moment.

"The technology, the Red engine, is capable of doing all three: PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. We are focused on Xbox 360 right now. Obviously that doesn't mean we would not like to do PS3 later on in line, like next after that. We would love to. Yes, I can say we would love to."

As for those issues holding up the PS3 version;

"The size of the studio and the approach we have for the projects," Gop explained. "We do not like to engage 50/50. With everything we go with full speed, always.

"The other thing is switching from PC to Xbox 360 was quite straightforward. We already have people that have done 360 games on board. Right now we're on the look out for a good PS3 developer, so it might happen."

The Witcher 2, ported well, will be a fantastic addition to the console RPG library once it is released, and the more people who get to play it the better. You can read our impressions on The Witcher 2 on the Xbox 360 from E3 here.

    I'm sure they will get around to porting it eventually. Of course, they may hesitate if the 360 sales for The Witcher 2 aren't as good as they hope.

    From what I've heard, developing on the PS3 is a bitch. I'm certain they'll be capable of doing it, but it certainly is going to cost more time and money to do the port. They may just be testing the waters with the 360 version before they commit to doing a PS3 port. I wouldn't expect any confirmations until they've shipped the 360 copies and seen the sales numbers.

    I read this as, "Moving to the 360 was simple since there is a lot of similar framework between the platforms. PS3 will take some R&D and longer than the 360 port would. If moving to the XBox proves to be fruitful and sells well then we can reinvest those resources into getting the Witcher 2 up and running on the Playstation 3."

    Well at least they are focusing on 1 console at a time instead of having on both systems and having terrible frame isues or something else.

    I hope it does, I wouldlove to play it.

    Might be like Mass Effect 2, and take them half a year.

    "Would love to" does not mean "plan to". Fact of the matter is the 360 hardware is damn close to PC hardware, so ports are easy. Porting to the PS3 is a much tougher affair, and if the 360 port has taken this long to come out, I fear a port to the PS3 won't be relevant by the time its possible. Also remember that the witcher 1 was planed for a multiconsole release as well. I am still hopeful though, as I would love to play the game, and would need a new PC to do so. Hey at least CD projekt isnt bashing sony like valve was right? its a start.
