http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TWl0FhCi34If you've been looking at your catalog of exclusive Playstation 3 titles and have been thinking to yourself, "Gee, there's not a lot of nauseating violence coming out anytime soon," you can rest assured that Sony has you covered.  Leaked yesterday and officially announced today, a new PS3 God of War title is inbound for a release by the end of 2013.  Subtitled Ascension, the teaser trailer above speaks of Kratos' origins in a time before he was bound to the Blades of Chaos.  This suggests the game takes place before Chains of Olympus, possibly even chronicling Kratos' march across Greece before he accidentally killed his family.

The project will be directed by Todd Papy, the design director on God of War III.  Sony's official Playstation Blog will be providing a live stream of the game's official unveiling on April 30th at 8am PST, in case a teaser trailer isn't enough for you GoW fans.

While I can appreciate the God of War series as a whole I was really hoping for a lot more than another freaking prequel.  At this point, it feels like the series is being milked after five games all set in Greece and little in the way of new mythology to explore.  Is it too much to ask for a proper continuation or an ending to the series as a whole?  At least give us something new to battle against: there are plenty of other mythologies the series could explore.

I don't understand the negativity this is receiving. Personally, I'd rather them not make another sequel then have it tackle a different mythology at this point. This isn't Assassin's Creed, there's no point in asking this series to be something that it's not. Also this is an opportunity for Kratos to get some much needed character development.

I'm more open to the idea that Sony is saving GoW4 for their next console.

I remember 4pp saying that Infamous should be a series about multiple superheroes with different powers and play styles, not just about some electric dude. I feel the same way about God of War. Make a game about Egyptian, Indian, Aztec or Japanese gods. That would allow you to change the art style, combat, platforming mechanics and instantly generate a lot of hype for the series. Do people really care about Kratos that much anyway?
